Dear EAGLE Phoenix South Community,

Our first full year back to in-person learning is nearly at an end. It has been such a pleasure to get to know you and your children. EAGLE Phoenix South is my happy place. Every day is a new opportunity to engage with our scholars as they learn and grow.

This year included tremendous growth for our scholars. Dedicated teachers and staff worked diligently to close gaps. Teachers spent time in professional learning communities reviewing testing data to best plan how to meet scholars’ needs. Wednesday afternoons were another opportunity to staff to learn together. Time was spent this year diving deeply into best practices in reading and math instruction in addition to creating a framework for positive behavior interventions and supports.

One of my goals this year was to partner with the community to bring enhanced programming and services to our school. We decided to pursue an emphasis on agriculture science that would give scholars an opportunity to apply science concepts in a real-world setting. The addition of our tortoise Franklin, our bunnies Trix and Lil Puff, planting our salsa garden, constructing our greenhouse have been rich lessons that expand learning beyond the classroom walls. We are thankful for the generous grant of $5000 we received from The Diamondbacks Charities that helped to make our agriculture dreams a reality. In the coming year, we plan on adding additional green spaces and welcoming more animal friends to campus. We also look forward to partnering with The 3000 Club to bring a Market On the Move location to Phoenix South. Market On the Move (MOM) is an organization that brings fresh vegetables to communities. Watch for additional information on how to take advantage of Market On the Move.

While we do have just a few short weeks prior to the official end of the school year, there are learning opportunities ahead! We are partnering with Exemplary Educators to offer an exciting STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, mathematics) Summer Camp at Phoenix South from June 6-17. STEAM Summer Camp 2022 is packed full of activities, learning, and field trips! Best of all, it is free to all scholars. We are also inviting students in grades K-8 who do not currently attend EAGLE to participate. To sign up, visit exemplaryed.org/eagleprep-STEAM and select Phoenix South as the location.

As always, thank you for allowing me to serve your family. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at 602-268-1212 or at stephanie.phillips@eagleprep.org.
